Lumbar Spine CT Protocol
Coverage
Please cover from Mid-T12 to mid-S2 if full lumbar spine is required. For disc disease where MRI is contraindicated, axial sections to the lower three disc levels plus any others that are clinically indicated in the referral. Please note there is a separate protocol for pars stress.
Resolution
Please use the maximal resolution the scanner allows with sensible radiation dose considerations. Please reduce the radiation dose for children and if gonads and other radio-sensitive organs are to be included.
Reconstructions
Sagittal and coronal and 3D reconstructions.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If any additional non-orthogonal (angled) reconstructions are required, the correct angulation will be demonstrated in the images below. Please ensure these reconstructions are also performed in the indicated cases
